Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has introduced a beneficial innovation known as the Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP), commonly referred to as a “bridging visa.” This initiative addresses situations where Canadian citizens applying for permanent residency require a valid work permit to continue working in Canada during the processing of their applications. IRCC recognized that applicants under specific permanent residence programs, already in Canada with valid work permits that might expire before their residency applications are finalized, would benefit from a bridging work permit to bridge the gap between their current permit’s expiration and the decision on their permanent residency application.
