Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class program is a testament to Canada’s inclusive nature. It welcomes those who have accumulated work experience in Canada and their accompanying dependents, offering them a chance to become permanent residents and be a part of the vibrant Canadian community. Candidates who have studied and worked extensively in Canada are particularly favored under the Canadian Experience Class program. This initiative acknowledges their role in fostering strong ties to Canadian society and contributing to the country’s economy, thereby enhancing Canada’s permanent residency program.

Criteria for the Canadian Experience Class

To qualify for permanent residence under this category, applicants will be assessed based on the following main criteria:

  • Completion of at least one year of work experience within the last 36 months in a job classified under National Occupation Classification TEER 0, 1, 2, 3 (NOC), including managerial, professional, technical, or skilled positions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in one of Canada's official languages, commensurate with the skill level required for the occupation where the candidate gained Canadian work experience.
  • Admissibility to Canada, ensuring no disqualification based on security, criminal, or medical grounds.

Work experience that qualifies

Full-time, professional work experience is a requirement for qualification. “Full-time” means working thirty hours a week. We might consider part-time labor, but only on a pro-rata basis. For instance, six months at fifteen hours per week in a skilled part-time position would be deducted from the twelve months needed. It is also possible to use many concurrent part-time positions to satisfy the experience requirement.
Experience obtained through employment outside of Canada without a current work permit would not be considered. Additionally, there won’t be any stints of self-employment or work experience gained while the candidate is a full-time student.

Language proficiency

Minimum proficiency in each of the four language skills — reading, writing, speaking, and listening — must be demonstrated. Candidates who have worked in a field where TEER or NOC Skill Form 0 or 1 are rated professionally are required to meet level 7 of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB). Candidates with qualifying work experience in a NOC TEER 2 or 3 careers must adhere to CLB level 5.
